Philip is the Regius Professor of Materials at Manchester and a major international figure in advanced characterisation.

He is Chief Scientist at the Henry Royce Institute and a Director of the National Research Facility for Lab. X-ray CT. He has more than 500 publications in the field. Philip is a Fellow of the Royal Society and a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering and the Chinese Academy of Engineering.
