Mark’s research interests are the high resolution characterisation of microstructures, in particular interfaces and surfaces. His research programmes are broadly based, covering metals, ceramics and coatings. He is leading the development of the Sheffield wing of the Henry Royce Institute and is the principal investigator on the EPSRC DARE project (Designing Alloys for Resource Efficiency – a Manufacturing Approach).
He is a winner of the IOM3 Rosenhain Medal and is a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering. Mark has published more than 300 papers and is involved in >£40m of current grants. He co-directed the Mercury Centre with Prof. Iain Todd.
