Professor Carolin Körner

Friedrich-Alexander-University

Carolin is the head of the Institute of Science and Technology for Metals (WTM) in the Materials Science Department, a member of the Collegial Board and head of the “E-Beam Additive Manufacturing” group of the Central Institute of Advanced Materials and Processes (ZMP) and the head of the “Additive Manufacturing” group of Neue Materialien Fürth GmbH (research company of the Bavarian state). Prof. Körner studied theoretical physics at the FAU. She earned her PhD with distinction at the Materials Science Department of the FAU Faculty of Engineering in 1997 with a thesis on “Theoretical Investigations on the Interaction of Ultra-short Laser Radiation with Metals” under the supervision of Prof. H.W. Bergmann. Habilitation and venia legendi in Materials Science followed at FAU in the group of Prof. R.F. Singer in 2008 for “Integral Foam Molding of Light Metals: Technology, Foam Physics and Foam Simulation” (Springer Textbook). In 2011 she took up her current position at FAU. At present, she is advising some 25 PhD students and postdocs in the field of additive manufacturing, casting technology, alloy development and process simulation.
