Ben is a specialist in the solid-state processing of metallic powders through combining experimental and computer modelling techniques. He completed his undergraduate degree in Physics and Astrophysics before studying for a PhD in Metallurgy at the University of Sheffield as part of the Advanced Metallic Systems Centre for Doctoral Training. He now works as a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the Sheffield Titanium Alloy Research (STAR) Group in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at The University of Sheffield.
His area of research within MAPP is mainly focussed on understanding the physics involved in consolidating metallic powders into fully dense bodies in a range of processes including Field Assisted Sintering Technology/Spark Plasma Sintering (FAST/SPS) and several severe plastic deformation process. He is one of the lead researchers in Theme P2 - Process by Design.
