UCL Mechanical Engineering is seeking to appoint a Research Fellow to be based at Harwell Campus. The position is available from September 1st 2021 and funded for two years with a possible extension.

The role will be to develop new alloys and processing methods for additive manufacturing (AM), with a focus on blown powder DED, using ultra-fast synchrotron X-ray and correlative imaging, gaining novel insights into advanced powder processes.

The post holder will work closely with Rolls-Royce plc and the academic and industrial collaborators from MAPP. The goal will be to develop novel materials, techniques and control algorithms that achieve highly repeatable properties in primarily metal AM components.

The successful candidate will join a dynamic group of academics, beamline scientists, post-docs and PhD students using in-situ synchrotron X-ray and neutron techniques to study advanced materials and their processing. The group, led by Professor Lee and Dr Leung, is based in the Research Complex at Harwell, Oxfordshire, the UK’s largest site for national laboratories, including the UK’s synchrotron light source, Diamond and ISIS Neutron Source.
